If you’re looking for things to do in York, UK, then definitely consider visiting York Ghost Merchant. Or, you can also read my other post about things to do in York.
York Ghost Merchants is a mysterious-looking, spooky yet enchanting little store in The Shambles. They offer a unique experience unlike any other, making it a must-visit if you’re seeking for a keepsake from this renowned haunted city in the world.
Coming in & lining up

Start queueing early. we started queueing just before 10am (they open at 10:00), however, the queue was already this long and extended for another half a block (not pictured).
We were able to enter around 2.5 hour later, which was around 12:30pm. I’m not sure what time people started queueing, but it’s probably a good idea to start queueing at least 30 minutes before the store opens during peak tourist season.
While waiting on the line, we had a conversation with a lovely lady from the area. She gave us tip that there are special ghosts like “Christmas Tree Ghost”, “Phantom Ghost”; which may or may not be hidden in the store. Fascinating!
Entering the store

As you enter, you’ll be in awe with the many ghosts on display. It’s extremely cute to be honest! ๐๐ป
The lady on the queue was right, the whole store was enchanting. It’s antique, eerie, yet so enchanting. Make sure to explore every corner. There’s an old photograph framed on the wall, which could actually be opened, and you’ll find tiny Phantom Ghosts inside ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน
You can then head to the desk near the cash register, it’s where you can find the limited edition ghost. For us, we’re lucky to get the limited Christmas Tree ghosts on our first visit.
Ghostly transaction

Now is the time to bring the ghosts home and head to the cashier. Boo! the till drawer would popped right in front of us. I was a bit spooked. It was yet another charm from this shop. You can see my whole experience on Tiktok here.
What makes it so special?

Each ghost is handcrafted and contains the initials of the ghostmaker.
It’s also a favorite of the local I think. The lovely lady also told us that there are events in York which would involve these ghosts. In Halloween, for example, they’d hide ghosts in the corners of the city. It’s fun, and yet, I have to say, a very excellent marketing strategy.
