Looking for an honest MUJI Hotel Ginza review? Here’s what our two-night stay was really like.
I booked MUJI Hotel Ginza almost a year before our trip. Partly because the rooms can be difficult to secure, but mostly because I was so excited to experience what it would feel like to stay inside the MUJI world, not only shop for it.
We stayed here for two nights at the very end of our Japan trip. After moving between several cities and hotels, arriving at a calm, comfortable room in the middle of busy Ginza felt like a lovely way to close the journey.
Here’s my review and experience at MUJI Hotel Ginza, Tokyo.
Where Is MUJI Hotel Ginza Located?

MUJI Hotel is located in Ginza, directly above the biggest MUJI store in Tokyo.
The location was one of the biggest advantages of staying here. Ginza is a busy and polished neighbourhood in Tokyo, with plenty of shops, department stores, restaurants, cafés, and convenient transport nearby.
I’ve been to Tokyo at least 3 times, and I always love staying at Ginza. If you’re searching for the best Tokyo neighbourhood to stay at, I would easily recommend Ginza to be the base of your stay in Tokyo. It’s walking distance to many delicious restaurants, and most importantly, it’s not as busy as Shinjuku/Shibuya/Harajuku; but also not as office-y as Nihonbashi.
Okii circling back to MUJI Hotel! Being inside the MUJI building means we’re able to visit the store shortly after it opened before it became too crowded. Shopping there in the morning felt much more relaxed than navigating it later in the afternoon.
Despite the hustle & bustle outside, the hotel itself felt surprisingly peaceful. Coming back to the room after walking around busy Tokyo felt like stepping into an oasis for introverts like me.
Which Room Type Did We Stay In?

We stayed in a Type C room (we chose the one with no bathtub)— yes, Type C is the long, corridor-shaped room.
Before the trip, the floor plan did not look particularly appealing to me. It seemed narrow and I was worried that the room might feel cramped or awkward.
Once we were inside, however, it worked much better than I expected.
The layout was thoughtfully arranged and the room did not feel as narrow as it looked online. Everything had its place, and the length of the room actually helped separate the different areas naturally.
This felt like a special case in which a floor plan may not always able to convey how comfortable a room could feel in person. And I just learned that the interior of a room could make such a difference to me! MUJI Hotel Ginza nailed it for me 🙂
What Does a Room at MUJI Hotel Ginza Feel Like?

The room was definitely my favorite part of the stay.
There was wood everywhere, paired with neutral colors, simple furniture, and soft lighting. It looked distinctly MUJI without feeling like a store showroom; just absolutely simple and comfortable.
Tokyo can feel very stimulating, especially after a full day surrounded by crowds, bright signs, traffic, shops, and train stations. Inside the hotel, everything became much quieter.
That contrast made the room feel even more special. It was calm, beautifully designed, modern & practical, and exactly the kind of place I wanted to return to at the end of the day.
The bed was also very comfortable. After almost two weeks of traveling, having a genuinely restful bedroom at the end of the trip made a noticeable difference.
What Amenities Do You Get at MUJI Hotel Ginza?

One of the most enjoyable parts of staying here was getting to use so many MUJI products 😀
At check-in, we were invited to choose an essential oil to try in the room [photo at the end of this post]. Since we stayed for two nights, we received two mini-sized essential oils.
It was such a simple touch, but it made the check-in experience feel more personal. Instead of receiving the same standard amenities as every other guest, we got to select something we actually wanted to use.
The room also came with plenty of MUJI items, including:
- MUJI bottled tea
- MUJI snacks, biscuits
- toiletries
- MUJI pajamas
- MUJI notebook and pen
- small in-room products to use during the stay
The pajamas were particularly fun to try because they are relatively expensive when purchased from the store. It was a cute experience for me. I felt like I was able to “test” MUJI products in the environment they were designed for.
Is Afternoon Tea Included at MUJI Hotel Ginza?

During the afternoon, hotel guests could visit the lounge for complimentary food and drinks.
There were cheeses, snacks, beverages, and several MUJI food products to try. I also remember seeing instant ramen among the options.
It was not a full meal, but it was a pleasant break after spending time outside. It gave us a chance to sit down, recharge, and sample products we might not otherwise have chosen from the store.
The experience felt very aligned with the hotel itself: simple, relaxed, and centered around everyday MUJI products rather than an elaborate traditional afternoon tea service.
Can You Shop at MUJI Ginza Before It Gets Crowded?

Yes, and this was one of my favorite small advantages of staying here.
Because the hotel is located above the flagship store, we could go downstairs in the morning shortly after MUJI store opened.
The store was noticeably quieter at that time. We could browse without having to move through large crowds and experience a shorter queue at the cashier, which definitely made the experience much easier & enjoyable. And after that, we could easily went back upstairs to our room to drop the stuffs before heading outside.
Anyone already planning to spend time shopping at MUJI may appreciate this more than expected.
Were There Any Downsides of Staying at MUJI Hotel Ginza?

Overall, I had a great experience at MUJI Hotel Ginza. My only minor criticism would be the bathroom, which felt a little underwhelming for me. That said, I’m very picky when it comes to bathrooms, so this is definitely a personal preference and may not bother everyone.
There was a faint unpleasant smell, and I felt it could have been cleaned a little more thoroughly. It was not severe enough to make the bathroom unusable or ruin the stay, but it was noticeable.
Considering the price and the attention to detail throughout the rest of the room, I expected this area to feel a little more polished.
Apart from that, the room itself was comfortable and beautifully maintained.
How Early Should You Book MUJI Hotel Ginza?

We booked our room almost a year in advance. Since Type C is the hotel’s most common room type, securing one wasn’t difficult. That said, other room types, typically the larger rooms, had already sold out by then; so if you have a specific room type in mind, it’s worth booking as early as possible.
That does not necessarily mean every date requires booking that early, but the hotel has limited rooms and is popular with both MUJI fans and travelers looking for a design-focused stay in Ginza.
For fixed travel dates, I would check availability (⬅️ link to booking.com) as soon as your itinerary begins to take shape, especially if you want a particular room type.
How Can You Get From MUJI Hotel Ginza to the Airport?

After checking out, we took a taxi to a nearby Marriott Ginza hotel where we boarded an Airport Limousine Bus.
Because we left early in the morning and had luggage with us, taking a taxi to the bus stop was easier than navigating the train system. I always take the limousine bus to the airport. It was straightforward and made the final journey to the airport relatively comfortable.
Is MUJI Hotel Ginza Worth It?

Overall, it’s a yes from me!
MUJI Hotel Ginza is not necessarily the place to book if you are looking for a large, traditionally luxurious room. Its appeal lies more in the atmosphere: warm wooden interiors, thoughtful details, useful amenities, and a sense of calm that feels noticeably different from the busy streets outside.
The bedroom was absolutely comfortable, the design was beautiful, and it’s interesting to imagine that we’re simply sleeping above a MUJI store. The location was perfect.
There were a few small imperfections, but they did not outweigh what we enjoyed about the stay.
Would I Stay at MUJI Hotel Ginza Again?

I would consider staying here again, although next time I would like to try one of the more spacious room types.
Our corridor-shaped room was definitely much better than I expected, and I did not feel cramped once we settled in. Still, I am curious to see how the experience differs in another room layout.
More than anything, MUJI Hotel Ginza was a lovely place to end our Japan trip.
After days of moving around, returning to a warm, quiet room in the middle of Tokyo felt especially comforting. It gave us space to slow down before going home and closed the trip on a sweet note.
