From bustling markets to restaurants, here are my takes on what to eat in Tokyo ranked from my most favorite to okay-but-i-still-liked-it. Because let’s face it, almost everything in Japan is delicious.
Here we go!
1. Ginza Kagari, Roppongi Hills

THE MOST SATISFYING RAMEN EVER. I loved how creamy and flavourful it was. Gotta apologise for underestimating it beforehand, bc my silly ๐ thought pork would always be better than chicken. This was definitely not the case! My most absolutely fav fav fav ramen from the trip!
๐กTIP: Go to their Roppongi Hills location. The line moved pretty fast. We queued for around 20 minutes.
2. Sushi Dan, Hiro-o

Had omakase here and it was delish! Not as expensive as many others, but absolutely delivered. Chef Takehiro Arakawa was also really friendly and welcoming. Would love to come here again.
๐กTIP: Reservation is strongly recommended. Seats are very limited- less than 10.
3. Unafuji, Ginza

Hands down the best unagi I’ve ever had. I’ve been to the famous unagi restaurant in Jakarta (Michelin Bib Gourmand List in Singapore), and Unafuji raised my bar even higher. Idk if it was the eel or how they seasoned it, it’s just pure unagi deliciousness that comes in huge portions.
๐กTIP: Reservation is strongly recommended.
4. Tsujihan, Ark Hills

Now I wasn’t sure whether to put this on number 3 or 4. Tsujihan’s kaisen don was absolutely delicious, but I liked it much much better when I finished 3/4 of my bowl– because that’s when the soup was finally poured in. I don’t usually eat much, but the broth was so flavorful that it made finish the whole thing.
๐กTIP: I went to the Ark Hills location (wait time around 15 min.) bc the queue at their main branch was cray cray.
5. Ichiran Ramen, Shinjuku

The classic. It’s a definite comfort food.
6. Godaime Hanayama Udon, Ginza

Loved the texture of the flat, wide noodle. Umami broth. Queue was insane though despite going on a weekday.
๐กTIP: Queue early. I reached there around 10:20 (they open at 11:00) and there was already several people queueing.
7. Tsukiji Outer Market

I’d recommend getting the tamago stick, tuna sashimi, and a cup of matcha latte here. I bought a strawberry mochi but it was so-so, and the rest of the shops were quite expensive.
8. Afuri Ramen, Harajuku

Now plenty of people have raved about this and yes it’s quite unique. Their yuzu broth is definitely uncommon but I personally think that it’s probably not for me– it was refreshing, but also tart… and salty? It’s definitely just a matter of preference. I loved their aburi pork slice though!
Notable Mentions

If you’re heading to Asakusa Sensoji Temple, you can get some dango and Cremia ice cream. Cremia was THAT good omg I even had to get another cone at the airport before take-off haha ๐ฆ
I also got a matcha ice cream from the same shop that sells Cremia, but I couldn’t finish it, it was too sweet & made my throat itchy.
