If you’re on the lookout for a vacation idea in Japan with a mix of luxury and the tranquility of nature, then Lake Toya Nonokaze Resort in Toyako Onsen, Hokkaido might just be your perfect match. Here are 5 reasons why.

lake, mountain, sky

Set against the backdrop of Lake Toya’s serene waters and the majestic Mount Yotei, Lake Toya Nonokaze Resort offers a stunning view during your stay. From the lobby to your room, you will not get tired looking at the snow-capped mountain and the occasional boat sailing on the lake.
Also, the hotel is only a short walk away to the outdoor walkway along the lake. The photo above was taken right at the back of the hotel.
simple yet luxurious interior

This view above was what I woke up to, taken from my futon.

Probably the most breathtaking backdrop for #grwm.
Our room was a traditional Japanese-Western-styled room, so there were 2 beds with 1 futon for the three of us. There’s a huge window overlooking Lake Toya, which was definitely the highlight of the stay. It was a wonderful experience waking up to see the blue landscape.
breakfast and dinner buffet

Buffet-style breakfast and dinner were included during our stay. From savory Japanese dishes to international cuisine, there’s always something to satisfy every craving. Never thought I’d be eating steak and sushi on the same night ๐คญ Desserts were delicious, and there was also a soft-serve machine!
Similar to dinner, there was also a lot of Japanese & international options for breakfast. Hokkaido is known for their dairy products and I was especially eager to taste Hokkaido milk. And this resort knows it! I got the chance to savor Hokkaido milk produced from 2 different areas in Hokkaido: Noboribetsu and Date. Interesting to note that both were the most delicious milk I’ve ever tasted (I don’t usually drink milk on its own, always in a form of latte), but the Noboribetsu one left a more creamy, soft, and buttery mouthfeel.
soaking in an outdoor onsen

Not pictured here for obvious reason, but the outdoor onsen in this resort was stunning. Located at the rooftop, it was a magical experience soaking in a steamy pool while gazing at the breathtaking Mount Yotei. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a long walk and to embrace a sense of tranquility.
friendly and heartwarming service

Last but definitely not the least, the above and beyond service really made our whole stay wonderful. Our stay coincided with my mom’s birthday and I decided to order a dessert platter in advance. We received a special treatment by all staffs right from check in, especially Mr. Akira Honma, who took care of us from the beginning. Mr. Honma offered to take so many photos for us, wished my mom a happy birthday, arranged a beautiful seat during dinner by the window, and even gave my mom a voucher as her birthday gift.
The birthday celebration did not stop until there. Remember the dessert platter that had been arranged in advance? They delivered it to our room after dinner and took a photo of usโ printed and framed beautifully. That was a really special gesture that added a very lovely touch to our stay.
All in all, their service was top notch. They also helped us book a bus to Rusutsu (which was our next destination). And if you see the FAQ on their website, they also offer a paid shuttle from Sapporo Station & New Chitose Airport to the resort.

Had the most lovely stay here and cannot wait to be back.
