an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind

| Time to Read :

1โ€“2 minutes

i stumbled upon this phrase when I was in high school 11 years ago, and it has lingered with me ever since.

it’s a beautiful reminder in which seeking for revenge would lead to yet another suffering. revenge may grant us “peace”, but is it truly the peace that we wanted or is it just an illusion of peace? is it alright knowing that revenge would cause pain, which may lead to more hatred?

responding to harm with more harm would lead to an unending vicious revenge/hate/pain cycle. is this truly worthwhile?

there’s plenty of things to do in this world, so wouldn’t it be better if we put our focus on something else that will elevate our energy and emotion?

breaking free from the cycle means letting go of the pain and the ego. from the book The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer, i learnt the beautiful approach of treating problems simply as events. events that would come and go, events that would pass through our lives.

life is full of events, which enables us to learn & make life, life. and that’s what makes life interesting. so instead of putting our attention to the past by plotting for revenge, wouldn’t it be better to place our precious energy in the generous present moment?

sometimes we feed our ego too much, but what do we want to achieve by doing that? is it truly worthwhile to sacrifice our peace for the expansion of our ego?

you hold the answer within yourself.
