3 Must-Visit Lakes in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada

| Time to Read :

2โ€“3 minutes

Feeling very nostalgic as I’m typing this ๐Ÿฅฒ I spent my early 20s living in Canada– the most beautiful place I’ve been so far when it comes to nature. Their turquoise lakes are just as pictured, or probably even better. So here’s my top 3 list (not in any particular order) of the most beautiful lakes in British Columbia (BC) and Alberta (AB).

1. Moraine Lake, AB

I’m sure you’ve seen similar pictures like above before. I’ve seen it a couple times in meeting rooms- with motivational quotes underneath the picture ๐Ÿ˜€ This is Moraine Lake in Alberta. I went there in July and it’s the perfect time to go kayaking.

The other time I went there was in late May, and the lake was still quite frozen over. It’s still a beautiful sight, it’s just that you can’t go swimming or kayaking. There’s also a lookout where you can take the stairs and see the lake from above. See photo below for the slightly frozen lake from the lookout โ„๏ธ

2. Lake Louise, AB

Still in Alberta, Lake Louise is probably more popular than Lake Moraine. It’s very touristy and located just right across Fairmont Chateau. I went there 3 times already and I was in awe every single time. The photos I took definitely didn’t do justice. The great Rocky Mountains would be right in front of your eyes and I remembered feeling so small and just simply wonderstruck ๐Ÿฅบ

Similar to Moraine Lake, Lake Louise in May was still quite frozen over. Usually you can also go kayaking in the summer here.

3. Joffre Lakes, BC

Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is located in Pemberton, BC– about an hour drive from Whistler, a popular ski destination in BC. There’s 3 lakes in this provincial park: Lower, Middle, and Upper Joffre Lakes. Lower Joffre Lake (photo above) is also turquoise and located close to the parking lot.

Middle Joffre Lake

It’s quite a walk (and hike) to get to the Middle and Upper Joffre Lakes, definitely need to wear the proper shoes and apparels. The hike was not difficult as it wasn’t too steep- and besides, you get to reward yourself with beautiful sceneries along the way ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Middle and Upper Joffre Lakes are both surreal. From Middle Joffre Lake, you’ll get to see the mountain from a farther distance, surrounded by beautiful pine trees. It was a definition of pure ๐ŸŒฒ natural ๐ŸŒฒ zen ๐ŸŒฒ.

And then there’s Upper Joffre Lake, where you get to view the mountain from up close. Lots of people took a dip in the icy water, it looked fun but I was too chicken to do it ๐Ÿฅถ I packed Indomie Mie Goreng for lunch there and it tasted so much better because it felt so rewarding haha.

Canadian great outdoors are truly remarkable with their Rocky Mountains and turquoise lakes. Have you been to Canada? Where’s your favorite scenic destination in Canada? ๐ŸŒฟ
